Do You REALY Have Peace?
“The heathen raged, the kingdoms were moved: He uttered His Voice, the earth melted. The LORD of hosts is with us; the God of Jacob is our refuge. Selah.” Psalms 46:6-7 KJV
Selah. Hebrew for; pause and ponder; a one-word command. We put periods at the end of sentences, because a state of being or an occurrence is complete. Dick saw. Jane is sad. Obviously, you wouldn’t have read “Selah” had you not been already reading, so what did you just read? What was just described?
In today’s passage, there are several connected things we are commanded to pause and ponder. “The heathen raged; the kingdoms were moved.” Both having to do with human existence, both describing the chaos and upheaval of man without God!
Look around. You’ll see it everywhere from domestic disputes to worldwide bloody conflicts. There is no peace! Even today’s popular music is loud, raucous, seductive, and offensive!
Just as Daniel predicted, in “the time of the end: many shall run to and fro, and knowledge shall be increased.”
You need to know something? Just “Google” it. Even with all this “knowledge,” have wars ceased? Is there lack of hunger? Murder? Disease?
The “news” industry is booming, because men are “ever learning, and never able to come to the knowledge of the Truth.” They scrabble to find peace without the Prince of Peace, destroying each other in the process of self-gratification! The world cannot give you peace, because it has none to give!
Consider the next occurrence in our passage: “He uttered His Voice.” God spoke! Anything can happen when God speaks “for with God nothing shall be impossible!” In the midst of world chaos “He uttered His Voice; the earth melted!” Have you ever watched something melt? All of its substance and form are reduced to a placid pool. When the tempest raged on Galilee, The Prince of Peace stood and commanded, “Peace! Be still!” And the wind and waves “melted!”
In the Final Conflict, when men and demons rage and move against Him, God will simply speak and they will melt before His Word of “Peace! Be still!”
If God is present, Peace is present. “Great PEACE have they which love Thy Law and NOTHING shall offend them!” Before He left, Jesus promised, “Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you: not as the world giveth, give I unto you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.”
Do not confuse happiness with God’s Peace. Happiness is as transient as the “happening” that caused it. It is neither sustaining nor lasting. Doubt is unbelief. True peace is the absence of doubt. Can you “Be still” while “the heathen rage and kingdoms move?” The real question is, “Do you have Jesus’ peace in your soul?”
“Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.” Matthew 11:28 KJV
